Recently, India has reported alarming levels of daily COVID-19 infections. During its latest tally, officials have recorded 332K COVID-19 cases in just a single day. With this, the number of COVID-19 infections in the country rose to 15.3 million.
Furthermore, this left India with the worst coronavirus outbreak out of any country in the world. Additionally, hospitals in the country are on the brink of collapse as they run out of oxygen and medication. Moreover, over two thousand people died in just a single day due to the virus.
Here is a video uploaded to Reddit showing the devastation the virus has brought to the country:
Meanwhile, despite the insanely large number of daily cases, data gathered from the independent statistic site “Our World In Data” suggest that it’s actually much greater. According to their data, the projected “Real number” of COVID-19 cases was around 4 million per day.
During the early days of the pandemic, India was hit relatively lightly compared to other countries. However, the recent rise in the number of cases may still be due to several factors.
Doctors say that it may be due to new, more infectious variants. Others point to eased restriction and people forgetting about basic health protocols following news of vaccines.
