US Issues “Do Not Travel To The Philippines” Warning As COVID-19 Surges
“DO NOT TRAVEL TO THE PHILIPPINES” – The US issues a stern warning to its citizens to not travel to the Philippines.
Recently, the Philippines has had a significant spike in the number of COVID-19 cases. Furthermore, new strains of the virus had begun local transmissions in some areas. Along with this, the country now has an endemic strain of the virus called the P.1. variant.
Because of this, The United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention says travelers, even those fully vaccinated should “avoid all travel to the Philippines”. According to an article from CNN, the CDC updated its “Level 4” list of countries not to travel to.
The level 4 travel alert is the highest travel advisory from the CDC. It states that countries within the list have “high levels” of COVID-19 infections. Moreover, even those who had full vaccinations should avoid travel as there are risks of infections from new variants.
However, if traveling to the Philippines cannot be avoided, the CDC urged travelers to complete their vaccinations. Currently, the Philippines has documented at least 953,106 COVID-19 cases. Of that number, 127,006 are considered active cases.
