Sinas Reacts To “Red Tagging Issue” Of Maginhawa Community Pantry
SINAS REACTS TO “RED TAGGING” – Amid the coronavirus pandemic, residents across the Philippines banded together to create “Community Pantries”
These projects enables a community-driven effort to help those in need in these trying times. However, according to a viral social media post, the organizers of the project got “red-tagged”.
Because of this, Maginhawa Street’s Community Pantries were postponed. According to netizens, policemen showed up and bombarded organized with questions including those in charge, asking them if they were part of certain organizations.
Afterward, the policemen supposedly handed out forms that the organizers had to fill-out which included their personal details. But, according to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Debold Sinas, no such “red-tagging” occurred.
In a statement, Sinas said it was “
beyond the interest of the PNP to delve into purely voluntary personal activities of private citizens”. Meanwhile, netizens were adamant that red tagging of organizers transpired.
Still, Sinas said that he saw the pantries as “an expression of the Bayanihan Spirit”. Furthermore, he claims that they had zero intentions of interfering with the project. Instead, he emphasized that the PNP simply wanted the best interest of law, order, and public safety in such activities.
