Grab PH, Palace Reacts to Viral Curfew Officials Claim “Lugaw Not essential”

The Malacañang Palace and Grab management react to the viral video where curfew officials claimed that the “lugaw” is not essential after apprehending the delivery rider.

The video where a woman enforcing a curfew criticizes a food delivery rider is now viral. According to the woman, the porridge (lugaw) was not included in the essentials set by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).

Lugaw Not Essential

In the video, the curfew officials apprehend a delivery rider working from Grab picking up the order in the porridge store allegedly the “Lugaw Pilipinas.” Based on the video the porridge store has a 24-hour operating permit and has partnered with Grab.

However, the curfew officials insisted that all the establishments in their area should be closed starting the curfew hours, which is 6:00 pm until 5:00 am. They force to close the porridge store claiming that their product is not included in the list of essentials.

The video went viral and earned criticisms from the online community. As such, Grab management expresses their reactions towards the viral video.

The Grab Philippines shared on social media a photo of the dish with the words: “If food is essential, and lugaw is food, therefore lugaw is essential.” It added: “Let’s give thanks to all our Grab riders na tuloy lang sa paghatid ng ating essential needs! Saludo po kami sa inyo, kuyas and ates (We salute you, brothers and sisters)!”

The Malacañang Palace, meanwhile, also reacts to the viral video. Malacañang on Wednesday said “lugaw” was an essential good and clarified that food delivery services were allowed to operate beyond curfew hours during ECQ in the NCR Plus bubble.
