Samantha Bernardo After MGI 2020: “I hope I made you proud”

MGI 2020 1st runner-up Samantha Bernardo of Philippines pens heartwarming letter after her triumph.

SAMANTHA BERNARDO – Miss Grand International 2020 Samantha Bernardo expresses a message after earning the pageant’s 1st runner-up slot.

Miss Grand USA Evelyn Abena Appiah is Miss Grand International 2020 successor of and crowned by 2019 titleholder Valentina Figuera. She is the first black woman to have earned the crown and the prestigious title. And next to her in the 1st runner-up is Samantha Bernardo of the Philippines. Other Miss Grand placers are:

  1. Second runner-up: Ivana Batchelor of Guatemala
  2. Third runner-up: Aurra Karishma of Indonesia
  3. Fourth runner-up: Lala Guedes of Brazil

During the coronation night held in Bangkok, Bernardo, Abena, and Guatemala’s Ivana Batchelor initially tied, and to break the tie, the top 3 contestants had to answer another question which is about who they would prioritize for a COVID-19 vaccine. Meanwhile, throughout the competition, the Pinay beauty queen has been making waves online for being among the top contenders.

She landed in the top 10 during Miss Grand’s National Costume competition on Friday, March 26, and her eagle-inspired national costume, designed by Patrick Isoren is also turning heads during the pageant. Many people also talked about her #GRANDnadaWalk during the swimsuit competition. During the two preliminary competitions, she was stunning in her emerald green gown by Louis Pangilinan, inspired by Palawan’s yellow-throated leafbird.

And after landing as the pageant’s 1st runner-up, she had nothing but gratitude to all the people who supported her in her journey. She said, “My purpose here is to be a symbol of hope, compassion and unity. I know I did my best and I have lived up to my purpose. I hope I made you proud again Philippines.”

Samantha is a rhythmic gymnast. She won the title of Mutya ng Palawan Tourism and was thereafter scouted for Miss World Philippines in 2013. She advocates against Malaria in the country. Apart from being a gymnast and being an avid reader, Sam has an active lifestyle doing pole-dancing and yoga.
