Montalban Mayor Says SK Motorcycles Distribution Is Not from Public Funds

The Mayor of Montalban, Rizal denied the accusation that their local government uses public funds to distribute motorcycles.

Mayor Dennis Hernandez said on a Facebook post, town funds were not used to purchase 11 units of Yamaha NMAX motorcycles distributed to Sangguniang Kabataan chairpersons in Montalban town, Rizal province.

The mayor said on his social media post that it was a donation by A Riders Group who wanted to help the youth. Hernandez stressed that the local government will never allocate funds for a similar project especially now during the pandemic, but promised to strengthen the youth sector.

The mayor admitted that SK chairs will use ‘controversial’ motorcycles in the “Stroll Kame” project. It was criticized by some netizens who said that based on Republic Act 6713, public officials or employees are prohibited from accepting any donations or gifts from the private sector.

Netizens also added Presidential Decree No. 46 signed by former President Ferdinand E. Marcos in November 1972. According to them, public official/s and employees can be imprisoned for one to five years and disqualified from any public office.

Netizens asked the mayor to answer the picture below that he and his brother the captain distributed and show the receipt that the buyer of the 11 units of the motorcycle was the A Riders Group and not from town funds.
