Man Pretending to be an NPA Member to Extort Money Arrested
Police arrested a man who allegedly pretending to be a member of New People’s Army (NPA) to extort money from the victims.
The man was pretending to be a member of the rebel group NPA to extort money from a well-known businesswoman in Solano town of the said province. The suspect was identified as Rumuel Salmos, 39, also a businessman resident of Bonfal Proper, Bayombong.
The victim, Marianne Elise Ramos, 47, a resident of Barangay Bagahabag Solano, Nueva Vizcaya, went to the police station to inform that an NPA member which is the suspect demanded a large sum of money from her.

According to P/Capt. Jet Sayno, chief of the Solano Police Station, the suspect even threatened the victim if she could not give the money. In a statement, Ramos said the suspect threatened to blow up her vehicles and gasoline station if he did not pay P60,000 as a revolutionary tax.
In addition, the suspect also told her to have intimate activity at a hotel in Bayombong. PNP Solano immediately launched an entrapment operation and arrested the suspect for accepting money from the victim.
Aside from the extortion money, police officers confiscated from the suspect 15 packages of suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia. Defense of the suspect, he committed intimidation and extortion because his surplus shop businesses were already losing money.
