Why the Tom Rodriguez-Carla Abellana engagement announcement was delayed
Kapuso actor Tom Rodriguez revealed that his engagement to longtime girlfriend Carla Abellana actually happened in October 2020 and here’s the reason why they delayed the announcement.
This weekend, Tom and Carla shared happy vibes on social media as both of them announced their engagement. Their friends in showbiz expressed happiness for the new chapter in their relationship.
However, in a recent media conference after the engagement announcement, the actor said that the proposal happened five months ago. He said that it happened at the house of Carla’s mom, former actress Rea Reyes, who became his “kasabwat” for the surprise.
Indeed, what they did surprise the Kapuso actress as her fiance said that she cried. “Iyak Manang, pulang-pula yung ilong,” he said. Tom Rodriguez also shared that he really felt nervous at that time even though he was sure that he will be getting a “yes”.
“One hundred percent naman, I’m sure she would say yes, pero paano kung biglang nag-no? Sabi ng mom ko, ‘Nak, magye-yes ba ‘yon?’ Sabi ko, ‘Oo naman, Ma!'” the actor shared.
For him, the proposal was overdue was he and Carla have been together for several years and they are sure where their relationship is leading to. Regarding the delayed announcement, he said that part of their reason was the pandemic. He said that they wanted to be sensitive and they were waiting for the right time.
The couple presumed that the situation will be better by now and so they announced the engagement this time of the year without expecting that things got worse.
“Then, all of a sudden, now there’s a resurgence happening, cases are an all-time high. Kaya it goes back to that lesson na when you wait for the right time, it may never come,” Tom Rodriguez said.
He said that they felt that this is the right time as they felt that they owe this announcement to the people who have been there for them over the years.
