Jan Catherine Sy, Henry Sy’s Granddaughter, Passed Away at 29 Years Old
HENRY SY’S GRANDDAUGHTER – Jan Catherine Sy, the grandchild of SM founder Henry Sy Sr., died at the age of 29 years old.
When it comes to the richest people in the Philippines, one of the most popular names is Henry Sy Sr. Although he does not top the list anymore, his businesses are still among the most prominent in the country.
Henry Sy Sr. is the founder of SM Group, now called SM Investments Corporation. It is a business conglomerate that focuses in the development and management of shopping malls, real estate businesses, tourism and banking.
Sy, a Filipino-Chinese business tycoon, was born in Fujian, China but his family flew to the Philippines when he was 12 years old. Later on, his family returned to China but he stayed behind and put up a shoe store, the ShoeMart, in 1958.
Years later, he founded SM Investments which owns many of the popular businesses in the country. He topped Forbes’ list of the wealthiest persons in the Philippines for more than a decade. It was in January 2019 at the age of 94 when the business magnate died.

Recently, a report about the family of Henry Sy Sr. crossed the surface. Based on Pep, Henry Sy’s granddaughter Jan Catherine Sy died at the age of 29.
Jan Catherine is the daughter of Henry “Big Boy” Sy Jr., he current chairman of SM Prime Holdings. Based on the report, Henry Sy’s granddaughter was confined at St. Luke’s Medical Center-Global City in Taguig due to septic shock.
Previously, DJ Tony Toni has even asked for blood donors for Jan Catherine as she needed A+ or AB+ from a male donor. Condolences to the Sy family.
