Avatar Beats Avengers: Endgame for Highest-Grossing Film
AVENGERS: ENDGAME – Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame has lost its place at the top of the all-time highest grossing movies as James Cameron’s Avatar has reclaimed the top spot.
In 2010, Canadian film director James Cameron’s science-fiction movie “Avatar” surpassed his epic romance and disaster film “Titanic” to become the highest-grossing movie of all time.
Then in 2019, Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame” overtook Avatar. Cameron took to his social media account to congratulate producer Kevin Feige and the actors behind the superhero movie.
James Cameron wrote, “To Kevin and everybody at Marvel, an iceberg sank the real Titanic. It took the Avengers to sink my Titanic. Everyone here at Lightstorm Entertainment salutes your amazing achievement.”
Over the weekend, James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ reclaimed its place as the highest-grossing film of all time. His movie was recently re-released in China and its earnings have increased.
Based on a report from Deadline, Avatar now has a total gross of an estimated $2.802 billion while Avengers: Endgame has $2.797 billion. Both movies are owned by Disney.
The producer of Avatar, Jon Landau said, “We are proud to reach this great milestone, but Jim and I are most thrilled that the film is back in theaters during these unprecedented times, and we want to thank our Chinese fans for their support. We are hard at work on the next Avatar films and look forward to sharing the continuation of this epic story for years to come.”
James Cameron is currently working on Avatar’s sequels. Avatar 2 is set to be released on December 16, 2022; part 3 for December 20, 2024; part 4 for December 18, 2026; and part 5 for December 22, 2028.
