Netflix Testing Feature Aimed At Limiting Password Sharing
NETFLIX LIMITING PASSWORD SHARING – The most popular streaming service, Netflix, is currently testing a feature that requires a new level of verification.
Currently, a small number of Netflix subscribers are receiving a message asking them to confirm they live with the account owner. According to an article from ABS-CBN, password holders need to enter details from a text message or email sent to the account holder.
However, viewers could still continue watching Netflix but the message could reappear again. Afterward, they could be required to open a new account to continue using their service.
“This test is designed to help ensure that people using Netflix accounts are authorized to do so”, said a Netflix spokesperson. Still, with the new system, account holders could hypothetically forward the message to those who have their password.
In Netflix’s terms of service, users of an account must live in the same household as the account owner. But, the Netflix along with other streaming platforms have long declined to crack down on account sharing or buying and selling accounts.
