Taal Update – 41 Volcanic Quakes Detected In Taal Within 24 Hours

TAAL VOLCANO – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology detected 41 volcanic quakes from Taal within 24 hours.

Due to Taal’s continued unrest, authorities retain Alert Level 2 in Batangas. According to Phivolcs, the tremors lasted for one-seven minutes.

Meanwhile, the main crater of the volcano emitted weak steam-laden plumes that went as high as 5 meters from the vents. Additionally, the temperature of the lake in the main crater spiked as high as 71.8 °C back on March 4.

Furthermore, continued GPS and InSar data suggested a “very slow and steady inflation and expansion of the Taal region since after the January 2020 eruption“.

Based on their daily bulletin, Philvolcs said that the indicators suggests heightened magma-tic activity at shallow depths. As such, the institute warned public that entry near Taal is strictly prohibited.

With alert level 2 raised, the threat of sudden steam-driven or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ash fall and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas may still occur.
