Mandaluyong Doubles COVID-19 Cases In A week, UK, S. African Strain Confirmed
MANDALUYONG DOUBLES COVID-19 CASES – Health authorities raised concerns as Mandaluyong’s coronavirus cases doubled within a week.
Furthermore, the presence of more contagious COVID-19 “mutations of concern” were found. According to an article from ABS-CBN, two patients were diagnosed with the UK and South African virus strain.
Recently, OCTA Research group warned of a potential outbreak of the new strains if left unchecked. Following this, Metro Manila had a significant surge in the number of daily coronavirus infections.
Meanwhile, Mandaluyong Mayor Menchie Abalos said: “New variant meron kami dalawa, 1 UK at 1 South African variant pero lahat sila magaling na“.
Moreover, she said that the patients came from work at a condominium. “Karamihan d’yan 1 lang per floor. Ang hirap namin ilockdown pero pinapabantayan na lang namin…higpitan ang kanilang amenities“, she added.
As such, Mandaluyong was placed under strict lockdown. Along with this, local officials will ask several condominiums to check up on the virus patients.
The Health Department on Friday announced that the number of South African or B.1.351 variant cases in the Philippines has surged to 58, while that of the UK variant already reached 118.
