Chinese and Filipino Selling Unregistered Test Kits Arrested in Navotas

Police arrested a Chinese national and a Filipino man in Navotas City after caught selling unregistered COVID-19 test kits.

In a report of Philippine News Agency, two individuals, including a Chinese national and a Filipino, were arrested in a police operation against the sale of unregistered coronavirus disease (COVID-19) test kits in Navotas City.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Debold Sinas identified the suspects as Liset Lo Kaw, 40, businesswoman and resident of Barangay San Rafael Village, Navotas City; and Christian Casanova Cruz, 23, a resident of Concepcion, Malabon.

According to Sinas, those arrested were allegedly leaders of Christian CG, a civilian group involved in online selling. The operation stemmed from the information provided by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding the illegal online sale of the unregistered COVID-19 rapid test kit.

According to National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief, Maj. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr. that the police poseur buyer was allegedly able to buy 109 boxes of the Clungene rapid test kit.

Recovered from the suspects were 154 boxes containing 50 pieces each of Clungene rapid test kits worth P1 million and marked money of P436,000. The police chief also reminded the public to join their fight against counterfeit sellers.

“I encourage the public to continuously report any suspicious activities, individuals to Report to RD NCRPO Text Hotline numbers O915- 888-9181 for GLOBE and 0999-901-8181 for SMART Subscribers,” said Danao.

 “We remind the public to be vigilant and to immediately report any suspicious online transactions. We cannot discount the risks associated with unauthorized medical products that could possibly endanger public health,” he added.

The two suspects fell into the trap of the Navotas City Police Station, Quezon City District Field Unit Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (QCDFU-CIDG), and Philippine Air Force intelligence on Tuesday.
