CHAPTER 2 NOLI ME TANGERE

The novel is one of the connected novels that were written by the Philippine national hero Jose Rizal (full name Jose Protacio Mercado Rizal y Alonzo Realonda).

He wrote the poem to make Filipinos see the abuse of power the priests show during the Spanish Colonization period.

The novel has 64 chapters. We are going to read the first chapter.

Chapter 2 is entitled “Crisostomo Ibarra”. Here is the summary of the Chapter:

Captain Tiago shook hands to all the guests and officials, among them were Friar Damaso who was shocked to see Crisostomo Ibarra.

Tiago introduced Ibarra as a son of his associate who went to study in Europe. Ibarra attempted to shake Damaso’s hand, who then turned his back.

Damaso was the close friend of Ibarra’s father. Damaso’s turning his back made him face the Lieutenant who observed him and Ibarra.

Ibarra and the Lieutenant who was happy to see the man. The Lieutenant said that Ibarra’s father was filled with kindness. Due to this, Ibarra was distraught at the terrible demise that befell his father. The captain then invited Ibarra to join him to dinner.
