Vico Sotto Former Professor Reveals The Mayor’s Caliber As A Student

A former professor of Vico Sotto revealed these things about him

Danton Remoto, an Ateneo professor and writer, recalled how Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto as a student was.

Being the son of popular showbiz personalities, Vic Sotto and Coney Reyes Vico did not live under the shadow of the images of his parents. From the time when he was studying in college, his ability to be a big name someday was already perceived.

One of the people who noticed that was his former professor at Ateneo de Manila University. Remoto wrote an article about Vico’s college life and how he was as a student in One News after he was named as one of the 12 International Anticorruption Champions.

The college professor, who taught Introduction to Poetry, said that he remembered well the first day of school when called Vico’s name. “I looked up and asked Vico, “’How is your mom, Constancia?”’ He laughed. He would tell me later that I was one of the few people in the world who knew his mother’s real name,” Remoto shared.

He also recalled the proficiency of Vico Sotto when it comes to the subject that he was teaching. Remoto said that the Mayor was well-prepared and had written his own haiku very well when they were told to submit one.

“Vico always listened with rapt attention, looking at the teacher with hardly any movement, and only moved to take notes. He soaked up everything like a sponge,” the professor shared.

He added that during recitation and when he would ask “particularly difficult question” and no one could answer it, his eyes would look at the “quiet student in the middle of the class”.

Remoto would call Vico and the latter never failed. The professor also shared that during Vico Sotto’s college years, he already has the inclination to go to the path where he is now.
