PAGASA – Tropical Depression Auring Enters PAR (February 17, 2021)

PAGASA – Weather bureau PAGASA recently said that Tropical Depression “Auring” has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

The severe weather bulletin No. 1 that was issued by the bureau at 11 AM states that the tropical depression was at 900 kilometers east southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. It has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility and was given the name “Auring”.

It is packed with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kilometers per hour.

The bureau’s official website said that Auring entered PAR at 8 AM, February 17, 2021 and is move generally westward or west-southwestward in the next 12 hours.

It will move generally west-northwestward and is forecast to make landfall over Caraga on Saturday evening or Sunday morning as a Tropical Storm.

The weather disturbance is currently not affecting any part of the country. However, residents in as, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Cotabato, and Lanao del Sur, as well as those in areas identified in hazard maps to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards, are urged to take appropriate preparatory measures due to possible heavy rains and gusty conditions associated with Auring.

Meanwhile, the Tail-End of a Frontal System will bring moderate to heavy rains over Eastern Visayas, Sorsogon, Masbate, Albay, Catanduanes and light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Central Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and the rest of Bicol Region.

The bureau warned that Isolated flooding and rain-induced landslides may occur due to heavy rainfall or prolonged periods of rainfall.

Based on the report, no Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals has been raised, as of the moment. However, TCWS No. 1 is expected to be raised over several provinces of Caraga and Davao Region as early as Friday.

For the forecast position of Auring, it is expected to be at 680 km East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur in the next 24 hours.

It will then move at about 515 km East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur in the next 48 hours.

In the next 72 hours, it is expected to be 290 km East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

In the next 96 hours, it is expected to be tn the vicinity of Jabonga, Agusan del Norte; and in the next 120 hours, it will be in the vicinity of Maasin, Iloilo.
