Filipino Devotees Properly Observe Health Protocols During Ash Wednesday Masses

The Filipino devotees have obediently followed the health protocols and quarantine guidelines during the observance of Ash Wednesday.

On Wednesday (February 17, 2021), thousands of Catholic devotees flocked to Churches to attend masses in observance of Ash Wednesday. It can be noticed that the Church attendees observed the health guidelines properly.

In Baclaran Church, Paranaque City, over 1,200 people can be seen peacefully observing the religious activity while following the safety protocols. Church goers are wearing face masks, face shields and observing physical distancing measures.

In Quiapo, some hijos strictly monitors the activity outside the Church to ensure that the attendees are following the health standards. Churches are now accommodating more attendees after the government allows religious gatherings up to half of venue capacity in general community quarantine areas.

The police authorities and the security guards are strictly implementing the quarantine protocols in Churches to prevent the possible transmission of diseases.

Ash Wednesday is the start of the 40-day Lent season before the Resurrection Day. Priests are sprinkling the ashes on the heads of devotees instead of placing repentance ashes on the forehead due to coronavirus pandemic.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) also said that the faithful devotees could get a small plastic sachet containing blessed ashes that they could give to their family members.
