Government Postpones Reopening of Cinemas in GCQ Areas Amid COVID-19 Pandemic
REOPENING OF CINEMAS IN GCQ AREAS – The reopening of the movie theaters in areas under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) is postponed.
The COVID-19 disease has been recorded in over 200 countries and territories across the globe. The Philippines is one of the nations dealing with the pandemic now.
In PH, a lot of changes took place amid the pandemic. Classes in schools were not able to start on time and face-to-face classes are prohibited. Currently, students are getting their education through blended learning – with the help of modules and online classes.
Also, the wearing of face mask and the practice of social distancing outdoors have become protocols. Several local governments have specific sanctions for those who will be caught with no face mask outdoors.

Unfortunately, a lot of businesses closed amid the COVID-19 pandemic. There are also those that temporarily stopped their operations and it include cinemas.
Recently, there were plans to reopen cinemas as part of the move to save the economy of the Philippines. Movie theaters have long been closed in areas under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ).
However, the reopening of cinemas in GCQ areas met criticisms from mayors in Metro Manila and the public. Many people are against it amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the threat of the UK variant of coronavirus.
Meanwhile, the national government is open towards the views of the local government and the people. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the reopening of cinemas in GCQ areas is postponed to March 1 as announced by presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.
There are concerns considering that the cinemas are closed areas and there is a huge possibility of people removing their masks to eat. Many people also don’t see it as a good move amid the threats of a new variant of coronavirus in the country.
