MARIKINA PREPS SIDE-EFFECTS FUND – Marikina City is preparing an indemnity fund for residents in case of unexpected side-effects.
This February, the Philippines is set to receive its first doss of COVID-19 vaccines. However, a large portion of the population still has fear when it comes to vaccination.
Although uncommon, there are some cases wherein vaccinations cause unexpected side-effects. As such, Mayor Marcelino Teodoro said the city council increased their funds to shoulder the hospitalization of patients who develop adverse reaction to the vaccines.
According to ana article from ANC, the Marikina Cty Mayor said:
We’re not putting a cap on individual assistance that will be provided. It will really be contingent, dependent on the medication or the treatment that one will be needing
Furthermore, Teodoro noted that a large portion of Marikina’s residents weren’t keen on getting vaccinated. He explained that this was mostly due to safety concerns, especially with the side effects.
Let me be candid about it, they had biases against those coming from China but now based on recent explanation and information they’re receiving, they’re saying each brand that will be made available will be safe and effective on the basis of FDA approval
Based on an article from ABS-CBN, Marikina has alloted around P87 million for orders of AstraZeneca. Meanwhile, as of Feb 10, Marikina City has reported 4,276 COVID-19 cases. Of that number, 87 have succumbed to the virus.
