Public Market in Nueva Ecija Was Stunned by Improvised Explosive Device

An improvised explosive device (IED) stunned the Brgy. Don Mariano Marcos, (Pob.), Jaen, Tuesdayexploded behind a public market.

According to Major Baltazar Corpuz, no one was injured in the explosion because most of the stalls in the market were closed at that time. The town’s police chief said the explosion was carried out to sow “shock and fear” in the area.

According to police, the IED was placed under garbage bags and wrapped in a plastic container to prevent detection. Investigators recovered scattered ammonium nitrate, orange polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes, wires, mobile phone keypads and batteries, nails, and parts of a washing machine timer at the scene of the explosion.

Based on the report of Remate, this is said to be the second explosion of the IED in the town amid the ongoing tensions in the mayoral row. The first IED explosion occurred on December 20 at the municipal gate.

It will be recalled that on February 6, a hand grenade was thrown in front of the gate of the Austrian house. The grenade, described as “a hand grenade M67,” did not explode.

It was thrown around 2:39 a.m. by men on a motorcycle who were caught by security cameras. Police are now gathering CCTV footages for possible identification of those involved in the said explosion.
