ICTSI Union Leader Killed, Niece Injured In Shooting In Tondo, Manila

TONDO – The labor union leader of the International Container Terminal Services Incorporated was killed in his residence in Tondo, Manila.

The ICTSI union leader, identified as Leonardo Escala, 50 years old, as well as his relatives descended from their vehicle at 7:20 PM when two unidentified men, who were aboard a motorcycle approached them, according to a report from GMA News.

The backrider went down from the motorcycle, drew his firearm, and shot Escala several times. The attack also hit Escala’s niece. The suspects then fled towards Navotas.

The victims were rushed to Mary Johnston Hospital. The union leader was pronounced dead at 8:28 PM while his niece was transferred to Philippine General Hospital for further treatment.

Based on the report, Escala sustained multiple gunshot wounds on different parts of the body while his niece suffered two wounds in the body.

Prior to the shooting incident, Escala received several death threats from unknown senders. The threats were in connection with his position in the union.
