Solon Urges Intensified Probe On Illegal COVID-19 Vaccines Sold Online
ILLEGAL COVID-19 VACCINES – A lawmaker on Monday emphasized the need to investigate illegal coronavirus vaccines being sold online.
As vaccines are about to enter the Philippines, a rise in illegal COVID-19 cures or unregistered medicine have circulated online. Due to this, Deputy Speaker for Trade and Industry and Valenzuela City Rep. Wes Gatchalian said this should be monitored.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, the Philippines is set to roll-out its vaccine program this February 15. With this, Gatchalian said that cybercrime agencies should be on the lookout for individuals or groups selling unregistered “vaccines” online.
Furthermore, Gatchalian called out to the public to report any suspicious claims or advertisements found in the online space. Based on an article from Inquirer, he said:
I urge our kababayans to report any suspicious claims or advertisement claiming to be a vaccine for Covid-19… Although these are indeed trying times, it is the height of insensitivity to take advantage of the need of our public
Currently, only Pfizer and AstraZeneca have secured and emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
