The order came after the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) ordered all local government units in Metro Manila to strictly implement a 60-day price ceiling on pork and chicken, according to a report from Manila Bulletin.

Aguilar ordered the city’s price control council, as well as the market master, and Dr. Michael Basangan, chief of the City Veterinary Office and head of City Agriculture, to conduct inspections in mall supermarkets, public markets, and talipapa’s in the city.

Bansagan was also directed to ensure strict implementation of the price ceiling. Aguilar added that those who will violate will be issued a show-cause order or have their licenses suspended, based on the report.

The Department of Agriculture earlier sought a price ceiling on pork products due to the increasing prices of pork meat.

DA asked President Rodrigo Duterte to approve the price ceiling on pork products to as low as P270 per kilogram as it continues to increase over the past few months due to the ASF, resulting in a shortage of supply.
