DOH Still Searching For 3 Contacts Of Filipino Infected With UK Virus Variant

UK VIRUS VARIANT IN PHILIPPINES – The Department of Health is still looking for the 3 contacts of the Filipino infected with the new COVID-19 strain from the United Kingdom.

Last week, the Philippines detected its first case of the new virus variant that originated from the UK. The strain was found from a passenger who returned to the Philippines after a business trip to Dubai.

Since then, the DOH had conducted intensive contact tracing for passengers close to the infected Filipino. Meanwhile, during an interview with GMA, DOH undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire emphasized that only three out of 213 close contacts have not been found.

Earlier, the DOH reported a total of 13 individuals were linked to the initial UK variant case was positive for coronavirus. This included eight of his co-passengers and five close contacts.

Following this, the samples from the five close contacts have been sent to the Philippine Genome Center for sequencing to see if they were also carrying the UK virus strain.

The Filipino male who tested positive for the new strain arrived in the country last January 7, 2021.
