Duterte Ready To Get Vaccinated For COVID-19 First
DUTERTE READY TO GET VACCINATED – Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that President Duterte is willing to get inoculated with a COVID-19 vaccine first.
Recently, there has been a public uproar regarding the Philippines’ vaccine procurement. Netizens expressed their dismay as the PH prioritized China’s Sinovac over more effective and cheaper vaccines.
Furthermore, based on a recent survey, the majority of Filipinos distrust vaccines in general. As such, close to half of the public wish to not be vaccinated.
This led to Roque emphasizing how Duterte was willing to take the vaccine first in order to ease public fear. According to an article from GMA, Roque said:
Pero kung imporante po yan (una sa bakuna) talaga para magkaroon ng kumpiyansa ang taumbayan, iniisip ko naman po hindi imposible yan dahil minsan na rin yang sinabi ng Presidente
Earlier, Vice President Leni Robredo stated that Duterte should be among the first to be inoculated with a COVID-19 vaccine. She explained that this was to encourage the public to allay fears for the vaccines in general.
If we can recall, Duterte initially said that he would be the first in the Philippines to be vaccinated. However, folowing news of the arrival of coronavirus vaccine in the country, Duterte said he would be the last to take the vaccine.
