Coronavirus Cases Rising Outside Manila, Says Health Undersecretary

CORONAVIRUS CASES RISING – According to the Department of Health, the number of COVID-19 cases outside Manila has seen an upward trend.

Amid the holiday seasons, authorities feared a potential spike in the number of COVID-19 cases. As such, several health protocols were strictly imposed especially in high-risk areas such as Metro Manila.

Because of this, the number of cases from within the Metro seemed stable. However, health authorities have recently discovered a spike in COVID-19 cases outside of the NCR.

According to an article from Inquirer, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire noted how Cebu, Cagayan, and Cordillera saw a rise in coronavirus cases.

Isa nga dyan ang Cebu na nakikitaan natin ng pagtaas ng kaso in specific areas. Aside from Cebu, meron pang iba. Meron tayong CAR, Region 2 at marami pang ibang regions na nakakapagtala ngayon ng medyo pagtaas ng kaso at minomonitor natin.

The Health Undersecretary explained how last week, the number of COVID-19 cases reported was 1,500. This was higher than December’s 1000-1300 reported daily cases.

Still, further investigations need to be done to determine weather the surge was due to the holiday season. Meanwhile, Vergeire stressed that the main reason why the cases spike in certain areas was due to a lax in compliance of minimum public health standards.

Currently, the Philippines had documented over 500,577 cases of COVID-19. Of that number, 24,691 remain active cases while 465,991 had recovered from the virus. Sadly, around 9,895 succumbed to the deadly disease.
