Rami Malek as Manny Pacquiao in a biopic?
Award-winning actor Rami Malek gave his reaction to the speculation that he will be playing Manny Pacquiao in a biopic.
Stories about the biographical film featuring the life of the boxing champ who became senator have been circulating in showbiz sections. It was speculated that Leonardo Di Caprio will portray Freddie Roach, the boxing coach of Pacquiao.
Reportedly, Rami is the one who will as the Pinoy boxing champ. In line with this, Rappler’s Ruben Nepales asked the Hollywood actor if the speculation is true.
“I can absolutely deny that. That’s fascinating. No, I will definitely not be playing Manny Pacquiao,” Rami Malek answered.
The Best Actor awardee who played Queen’s Freddie Mercury for the movie Bohemian Rhapsody also said that this is the first time that he heard stories about this that has been circulating in the Philippines.
Because of this speculation, there were Filipinos who reacted pointing why a non-Filipino actor will portray as the Filipino boxing champ. With this, Rami agreed with that sentiment.
“I think that would be the right choice. If we’ve learned anything, by certain stretches, an actor can do it. But for someone of Filipino origin, it would be nice to see that person being played by somebody from that country,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rami Malek is part of the new James Bond movie of Daniel Craig, the No Time to Die. Unfortunately, the release date was moved due to the pandemic.
Rami, playing as the villain Safin, said that it is fine with him that the release date was moved to a later schedule. “The safety of the public is more important than me having anyone race to see their favorite film. If there’s anything we’ve learned, it’s for the most part that we can wait. We can be patient,” he said.
