Did Alden Richards ‘Victim-Blame’ This Bawal Judgmental Contestant?
ALDEN RICHARDS – Kapuso heartthrob Alden Richards was accused of “victim-blaming” when he asked this question to a ‘Bawal Judgmental’ contestant.
Filipino actor Alden Richards currently hosts the longest-running noontime variety show in the Philippines, Eat Bulaga. He has been on the program since 2015.
His rise to fame is often described as phenomenal due to his and Maine Mendoza’s unscripted forming of the AlDub love team. He’s now one of the hosts of the ‘Bawal Judgmental’ segment of the noontime show.
Alden Richards is the latest to be targeted by angry Twitter users for alleged victim blaming a ‘Bawal Judgmental’ contestant. In a video clip circulating on the social site, the female contestant shared how her husband “abused” her then the Kapuso star asked her what could possibly trigger her husband to hurt her.
“Ate Chelle sa tingin mo? Kagaya nung sinabi ni doc kanina na parang diba syempre may pagkukulang yung mga asawa, ikaw ano sa tiningin mo yung pagkukulang mo sa asawa mo kaya sya nagging ganyan,” he asked.

Alden Richards’ doesn’t sit well with some netizens. One of them said he’s “always asking half-baked and lame questions” on the show.
A Twitter user also said, “the question was really off and it is not lowkey victim-blaming, IT IS OBVIOUSLY VICTIM BLAMING.”
Alden Richards’ fans were quick to defend him from angry Twitter users. Here are some of their posts:
@themacthoughts: “I think it’s okay to call out Alden because of what he did, but judging his entire personality based on one mistake is just as wrong”
@pscd87: “This virtual hug is for you, Alden. You have your lapses just like all of us but you are a good man with a good heart. So, chin up and carry on.”
@urmyflashlight: “I am comforted by the fact that their judgment of Alden is based on a malicious clip w/c does not tell d whole story. His being is not defined by that poorly worded question.”
@Fantasi33674079: “There is nothing wrong with Alden’s question. Even the therapist said that sometimes the wife contributes to the dispute, so Alden did a follow-up question base on that.”
