Senator Gatchalian Seeks NBI Help After Hacker Used His Credit Card to Buy P1-M Worth of Alcoholic Beverages
Senator Gatchalian is now seeking help from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after a hacker used his credit card.
On Thursday (January 7, 2020), Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian has already reported the incident wherein a hacker illegally used his credit card to buy foods via Food Panda. He also sought NBI’s help to locate the hacker.
“Ang NBI natin maganda ang track record sa ganitong cybercrime kaya kampante ako na mahuhuli din sila,” Gatchalian said.
Earlier this week, the lawmaker announced on his Twitter account that an unidentified hacker illegally used his credit card to purchase about P1 million worth of alcoholic beverages. The hacker was able to obtain his one-time password by changing his mobile number.
Unionbank cancelled the senator’s credit card for the mean time while the investigation is ongoing. The bank is already coordinating with Food Panda to investigate the incident. The food delivery company has also launched a probe regarding the incident.

“We assure all our customers that this matter is an isolated incident. UnionBank has always been committed to the security of our customers and we remain driven to ensure their safety when transacting online,” Unionbank said.
The 46-year-old politician is also looking at the possibility that an insider from the bank or Food Panda helped the hacker.
