Quiapo Church Reminds Filipino Devotees No ‘Pahalik’ for Traslacion 2021
The Quiapo Church reminded the Filipino devotees that there will be no “Pahalik” during the Traslacion 2021.
Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene parochial vicar Fr. Douglas Badong announced that the traditional “Pahalik” or kissing of the Black Nazarene statue will be canceled. It would be replaced by “Pagpupugay” and “Pagtanaw”.
Fr. Douglas Badong of Quiapo Church explained that some of the traditional rituals will be canceled to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus disease. The wooden image would be displayed at the balcony of the church.
“Sa ngayon dahil isa sa pinanggagalingan ng virus ay yung [pag hawak], wala po munang [pahalik] sa taong ito, imbes na pahalik ay meron po muna kaming mga pag pupugay na tinatawag,” Badong said.
The priest also announced that devotees could not wipe their handkerchiefs on the Black Nazarene’s statue. However, the handkerchiefs can still be blessed after every mass during the religious festival.

Badong also advised the Filipino devotees not to bring their large image replicas during the annual religious event because it will consume more space. Small ones are allowed but big statues are not advised.
Traslacion 2021 is the first time wherein some of the traditional rituals has been cancelled to ensure the safety of the attendees amid the coronavirus pandemic.
