Government Official Vince Dizon Records At Least 74 Overseas Travelers Tested Positive for Coronavirus Disease

A government official reported that at least 74 overseas travelers have tested positive for the coronavirus disease.

On Tuesday (January 5, 2020), National Task Force Against COVID-19 deputy chief implementer Vince Dizon said that 74 overseas travelers who arrived in the Philippines have tested positive for COVID-19.

Dizon said that the country is imposing stricter rules and regulations to prevent the entry of the new coronavirus variant but 74 people still test positive for the disease between December 22, 2020 and January 3, 2021.

The official said that a total of 3,684 travelers undergone on COVID-19 test and 3,610 of them test negative. He also revealed that all travelers need to undergo a 14-day quarantine period before they could return home.

“Mababa naman po siya pero hindi po talaga natin kayang itaas ang risk para sa ating mga kababayan dito sa Pilipinas, kaya po talaga kahit na po mag-negative ay kailangan pa rin natin i-quarantine ang ating mga kababayan ng 14 days,” Dizon said.

The samples of the patients who test positive have been sent to the Philippine Genome Center and the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine to monitor if the traveler are infected with the new strain of COVID-19.
