Two Smugglers Claiming To Be MNLF Arrested In Matanog, Maguindanao

MATANOG – Soldiers and policemen recently nabbed two smugglers who claim to be members of MNLF were arrested in Matanog, Maguindanao.

According to a report from Manila Bulletin states that Naval Forces Western Mindanao spokesman Lt. Chester Ross Cabaltera said that the suspects, who were identified as Karim Omar and Abdullah Saidan, were flagged down at a checkpoint aboard a cargo truck along the national highway in Barangay Sapad in the said town.

The truck was loaded with Fort brand smuggled cigarettes, which is said to be worth at about P1.5 million.

Based on the report, the suspects were taken to the local police station after they failed to present pertinent documents in relation to the importation of the seized cigarettes.

The suspects are tagged by authorities to behind the smuggling activities in the said area. The suspects claim to be members of the Moro National Liberation Front.

Earlier this month in Cotabato City, 432 boxes of smuggled cigarettes which are worth at about P13 million were seized there.

The shipment was intercepted while entering the country via Rio Grande River in the said city.

It contained cigarettes from Fort, Bravo, Canon, and New Berlin, among others.
