DepEd Says Declining Number Of Students In Only Class Nothing To Worry About

DepEd On Declining Students – The Department of Education said there’s no need to worry regarding the claims of a declined number of students in online classes.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, millions of students and teachers shifted to distance learning. Two systems were in place in the form of online classes and modular learning. However, no dry-run was done causing major issues during early implementation.

According to the national chairperson of Teacher’s Dignity Coalition, Benjo Basas said out of 40 students 30 usually attend distance learning classes. But recently, Basas emphasized that the number of students that attend doesn’t even reach half.

As a response to this, the Department of Education said they were validating the claims of the teachers’ group in both modular and online learning. Meanwhile, according to Usec. Diosdado San Antonio, a decline “should not be a big concern”.

He explained that DepEd was able to quickly revert to another distance learning format to ensure every student is given access to learning resources. Furthermore, according to an article from ABS-CBN, San Antonio stated:

I don’t have the data now as to the general trend. We may be talking to different kinds of human beings who have mixed reactions to the things that we do, and we realize that. We have to make sure that everything we do should benefit the general majority of learners we have
