PNP Assures Security To Witnesses Of Gregorio Deaths At Hands Of Killer Cop
PNP ASSURES SECURITY – The Philippine National Police promised to provide tight security for the witnesses of the killing of a mother and son in broad daylight.
Recently, the country was left speechless as two unarmed civilians, Sonya and Frank Gregorio, were killed by a policeman in broad daylight. Following the killing, the suspect, Police Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca is now detained and charged with double murder.
However, there still seems to be a bump in the road before justice would truly be served. According to PNP Chief Debold Sinas, the police was trying to use the submit the viral video of the killing as evidence. But, he said that the primary witnesses felt like they were hesitating to testify in court.
According to an article from Inquirer, Sinas said:
We’ve talked to the girl who took the video and she’s a possible witness … We’re still getting the consent of her grandmother so our case will be stronger
Furthermore, Sinas said that the family of the killer cop will be given protection from harassment as well. Additionally, Sinas mentioned that that Nuezca’s family already moved out. However, the police chief emphasized that the PNP still needed to secure them as their situation was “pitiful”.
Meanwhile, Nuezca said he deeply regrets his actions. However, as per the article, investigators said Nuezca surrendered but “didn’t testify”. As such, Sinas said, “If Nuezca will confess to what really happened from his point of view that will help us understand“.
But, the police chief added that if he doesn’t, the PNP still has “strong evidence” against him. Additionally, Sinas mentioned that if Nuezca doesn’t want to get interviewed, investigators won’t insist.
