Nancy Binay Chides Lack of Punishments to Irresponsible Cops
Senator Nancy Binay chides the lack of punishments to irresponsible cops abusing the power of authority and involved in wrongdoings.
Senator Binay questioned the leadership of the Philippine National Police (PNP) for addressing “a long list of transgressions” by the police. She said she noticed that the police force seems to be lenient when it comes to punishments of violations.

According to her Facebook post, she noted that violator cops are even still get promoted despite heavy offense. She added that it’s time for a values reorientation from top to bottom ranks.
“Something is deeply wrong when you have both top cops and rank-and-file who flout the law. Wala nang takot, dahil tila hindi naman na yata sila napaparusahan. Kadalasan napo-promote pa nga,” said Senator Binay.

As such, Binay said the public has already seen a bad perception of cops. Instead of being trusted to protect and to serve, they are viewed as the “face of terror.” She appeals to stop the abusing of powers for evildoings.
“Rather than being the people’s assurance of law and order, lately many of our cops are becoming the face of terror and impunity, blatantly disregarding the rule of law and spitting on our values. Tama na, sobra na, kailangang itigil na ang pang-aabuso,” she said.
“May ninja cops, mañanita cops, ex-cop na land grabber at illegal logger, berdugong pulis—buong taon may nakakahiyang headline tungkol sa pulis. Ano na ba ang ginagawa ng liderato tungkol dito? The people expect the police to be their defenders, not their offenders,” Binay said in a statement.
Her statements come up after the shooting incident in Paniqui, Tarlac where Police Corporal Jonel Nuezca ruthlessly shot Sonia and Frank Anthony Gregorio over an altercation due to the use of “Boga.”
