Suspected Leader, Member of Gun-for-hire Group in CamNorte Died in a Shootout

 A suspected gun-for-hire leader in Camarines Norte province and his companion were killed in a shootout in Labo town on Wednesday.

The suspects who died in the shootout incident were identified as Jonel Sayno Alcanzo, leader of Alcanzo Gun-for-Hire Group, and Joseph Demate Piad, alias “Bukol/Bokel,” based on the investigation of Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-5) spokesperson Maj. Malu Calubaquib.

Alcanzo is also an alleged member of the New People’s Army (NPA). According to the Calubaquib, Alcanzo fired at the policemen prompting them to retaliate as they were about to serve the search warrants of the two.

“Driven by its solid commitment to maintain peace and order in the region, PRO 5 continued its anti-criminality campaign which resulted in the death of two suspects and the arrest of another during the simultaneous implementation of the search warrant for Violation of RA10591 on December 16, 2020, at Purok-3, Brgy. Anamean, Labo Camarines Norte,” Calubaquib said.

Alcanzo and Piad were killed during the encounter while another companion identified as Nicolas Cal Placio alias “Olay” was arrested. 1 unit of caliber 45, 1 unit of carbine rifle, 1 MK2 fragmentation hand grenade, and one bandolier with an assorted M16 magazine with live ammunition were recovered from Alcanzo.

Police also retrieved one Caliber 38, 1 improvised Caliber 22 rifle, 1 replica of caliber 9mm pistol, and a bolo from alias “Bukol/Bokel.” Police also confiscated one Smith and Wesson caliber 38 from Placio.

The recovered items will be brought to custody for proper disposition. The bodies of the suspect will be brought to the funeral home for post mortem examination. The arrested accomplice is now in Labo Municipal Police Station custody.
