Airlines Gear Up To Transport COVID-19 Vaccines Around The World

COVID-19 VACCINES – The airline industry gears up as it plays an important role in transporting millions of COVID-19 vaccines.

Airline firms American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines spoke with government officials, pharmaceutical companies and experts. This is to determine where vaccines might be produced, how they would be shipped and what is the best way to place people and planes to get them moving, according to a report from ABS-CBN News.

Recently, they have flown batches of said vaccines for trials and research uses in order to prepare for wider distribution.

As mentioned, the industry will have a vital role in transporting billions of doses aboard hundreds of flights in the following months. This puts underused planes and crews to work while circulating the very thing that will help them revive travel. However, this represents but a portion of a huge, global relay race wherein they will be ready to move at a monent’s notice.

“When a request comes in, it’s going to be urgent and we have to act immediately,”

This came from a report by Manu Jacobs, who chairs shipments of pharmaceuticals and other specialty products for the US.

There will be a meeting for a Food and Drug Administration vaccine advisory panel to determine whether the agency should grant emergency authorization of the Pfizer vaccine.

Moderna’s vaccine, on the other hand, is expected to ebb reviewed next week.

Based on the report, another challenge for the airlines is to transport the vaccines at frigid temperatures. Pfizer’s must be stored at an incredibly low -94 degrees Fahrenheit while Moderna’s can be stored at -4 degrees.

Pfizer made special cooler containers that can be stuffed with dry ice. However, aviation authorities limit how much dry ice can be carried on planes since it turns to gas, which is potentially toxic for pilots and crews.
