Social Distancing Violators Get Sticked As PNP Authorized Use Of Yantok

SOCIAL DISTANCING VIOLATORS GET “STICKED” – Officers of the Philippine National Police may use “yantoks” on hardheaded individuals who aren’t following health protocols.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, one of the most pressing issues in several communities was the lack of social distancing. As such, the PNP approved the use of rattan sticks to enforce health protocols, especially during the Christmas season.

During a press briefing for Laging Handa, Lt. Gen. Cesar Binag, PNP deputy chief for operations said:

They will have a rattan stick – one-meter length. It’s for stopping (violators) and as a measuring device, and would be used to hit hardheaded individuals

Furthermore, more police officers were stationed in key public areas such as public markets, seaports, airports, malls, and transportation stations. Meanwhile, the PNP noted that more and more people have gone out of their homes amid the Yuletide.

Following several month of one of the strictest quarantines in the world, The Philippines had finally saw a steady decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases. However, experts believe that if health protocols are too laxed, especially during Christmas, another outbreak might occur.
