Charo Santos talked about the start of ‘Maalaala Mo Kaya’
Veteran actress Charo Santos, who is also the host of Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK), recalled how they started the longest-running drama anthology in the Philippines.
MMK has been on air for 29 years now and to celebrate its anniversary, an all-star cast is set to showcase a heartwarming story on Saturday’s episode. Despite the success of the show that is almost three decades now, Charo shared that they never expected that it will be a big hit.
Talking to Philstar columnist Ricky Lo, the ABS-CBN executive said that initially, they just wanted to share “stories of hope and inspiration.” Part of their aim was to create a best quality drama program.
“The response from the audiences and the recognitions from award-giving bodies through the years are an affirmation that we continue to deliver stories that are relatable and inspiring as we intended when we started doing MMK,” Charo Santos shared.
Although she aspired that the show will last, she did not expect that it will reach its 29th year. With this, the veteran actress expressed her appreciation for the love and support for their avid viewers.
Now, that MMK is back, Charo sees this as a blessing. People have been hit hard by the pandemic and need hope and inspiration, which MMK stories can provide,” she said.
When asked what are the three of the most memorable episodes for her, Charo said that she has a lot of favorites but her top three would be Rehas featuring Gina Pareño, Fanny Serrano’s story titled Sinturon, and Kotse-Kotsehan that showed two truths from the eyes of two mothers.
