200 Individuals In Lapu-Lapu City Arrested For Violating Health Protocols
LAPU-LAPU CITY – The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) recently caught about 200 people for violating health protocols.
According to Inquirer’s Cebu Daily News, LCPO city director Police Colonel Arnel Banzon said that the city is intensifying its monitoring of the city streets following a rapid increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.
“Most of them were not wearing their face masks and violated the curfew ordinance. Majority of them as well are minors,”
The city is under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) where only individuals aged 15 to 65 are allowed out on the streets.
Banzon added that those who were captured will be asked to undergo community service or pay a P1,000 fine.
“But if they cannot pay the fine or fail to undergo community service, we will file appropriate charges against them. We will go to court,”
As of November 17, there are 94 active cases of COVID-19 in the city,, according to a bulletin from the health department.
Based on the report, the police has intensified its border checkpoints across the city since November 14 following the recent spike of new cases. There were 30 new cases of the virus in the city on that day.
The police added that they are strengthening their checkpoint in preparation for the fiesta celebration on November 20 to 21. The city mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan discouraged the entry of visit from outside the city during that period.
