Manny Pacquiao believes that this is the simple solution to flooding
Senator Manny Pacquiao offered this “simple” solution to flooding after the Philippines was hit by the strong typhoon Ulysses.
The said typhoon caused the overflowing of Marikini river and flooding in various areas in Luzon was experienced. Due to this, many properties were destroyed and led to losing the lives of people.
In a previous report, the 2017 post of the late environmentalist Gina Lopez caught the attention of the online community after the flooding caused by Ulysses. It is because she was stressing back then that the Marikina Watershed needed restoration.
She pointed out that if this preventive measure will not be done, this will cause a wide flooding in the National Capital Region, and then came Ulysses and the devastating effect happened.
With this problem in flooding, based on the article from Inquirer, Senator Manny Pacquiao shared his thoughts that will be a “simple” solution. He suggested that the dredging of rivers will prevent this problem to occur again.
“It’s a no brainer. Kapag malalim ang ating mga ilog at mga estero, mas maiiwasan ng posibilidad na umagos ang tubig-baha papunta sa ating mga kabahayan,” the lawmaker said.
The boxer-politician also stressed that the flood control program should be focused on this and not on “mga proyekto na paulit-ulit lang”. He added that the recent flooding could have been prevented if only the Marikina River, Pasig River, and other secondary tributaries have an at least additional 10-meter depth than the current state.
He also suggested that this could also be done in Laguna Lake and other rivers in Luzon. Sen. Manny Pacquiao added that a bill can be filed in Congress in order to mandate the local government units to maintain the 10-meter depth.

I agree, billions are lost yearly In infrastructure repairs and other community losses. If those billions are used for dredging, flooding and the subsequent expenses to restore the losses will be done away with.
