DFA Update on COVID-19 Cases Among Filipinos Abroad

DFA – The Department of Foreign Affairs released an update on the cases of COVID-19 among Pinoys in the different countries abroad.

The COVID-19 pandemic hit more than 200 countries and territories across the globe. Even the World Health Organization (WHO) was alarmed by how fast the disease spread across countries.

Philippines is one of the countries with confirmed cases of this new coronavirus disease. The records of the Department of Health (DOH) has reached 407,838 cases of COVID-19 including 7,832 deaths and 374,329 recoveries.

The whole country is still under community quarantine measures now. It is one of the major moves to curb the spread of the disease. Metro Manila will remain under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) until December.

Now, it is already a protocol to wear a face mask and practice social distancing when going outdoors. Different cities and provinces also set quarantine facilities and measures for the returning residents and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

Some Pinoys abroad have also contracted the disease. Recently, the Departmemt of Foreign Affairs (DFA) gave an update on the COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, DFA reported no new coronavirus case and death among Pinoys in the different countries abroad. The total cases remain at 11,522 including 830 deaths and 7,461 recoveries.

According to the report, 3,231 Filipinos abroad are currently treated for COVID-19 with 547 of them in the Asia Pacific, 229 in Europe, 130 in the Americas, and 2,325 in the Middle East and Africa.

Many Filipinos from abroad have already returned home following several months of lockdowns that prohibited them from returning to the Philippines. There’s a mandatory swab testing and quarantine for every returning OFW in the country.
