Dash and Lily Review: Is Netflix’s New Series Worth Binging?

Is Dash and Lily series worth binging?

Netflix features a new romantic-comedy series, Dash and Lily, following the hate-love reactions that Emily In Paris brought out from viewers.

This is based on the book series Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. The modern romance between two individuals is set in New York during the Holiday season.

Dash (Austin Abrams) hates Christmas but Lily (Midori Francis) is otherwise. The two started a connection when Dash found a mysterious red journal placed along with the books by J. D. Salinger in the famous Strand Bookstore in Manhattan.

The journal contained clues from Lily to track her down who is an equally bookish girl. Based on the review from Time, all the usual ingredient in a rom-com were highlighted in the series.

Viewers can notice the predictable arc of the series but a predilection for absurd coincidences can make it straight-up hacky from being familiar. “The liveliness and authenticity of its contemporary New York” can also be a good thing, the article stated.

The fact that Dash and Lily also feature a multicultural crowd added flavor to the series. Aside from this, the series did not venture also on the glamorous lifestyle that Gossip Girls featured as New Yorkers’ lives.

The review also stated that Dash and Lily series is beyond the usual New York setting rom-com. However, it is inevitable that some viewers may elude from this and those who did not like Emily In Paris might like this one.
