The state weather bureau recently said in its 11 AM bulletin that Siony, which is expected to intensify into severe tropical storm between Wednesday and Thursday, was last spotted to move slowly or “remain almost stationary” within the next 12 hours.

According to GMA News, Siony will move generally westward or west-northwestward towards the Luzon Strait and Extreme Northern Luzon.

The storm is expected to be very close to the Batanes and Babuyan Islands between tomorrow evening and Friday morning

Tropical Cyclone Winds Signal No. 1 was hoisted over the following areas:

  • northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga)
  • eastern portion of Babuyan Islands (Balintang Island, Babuyan Island, Didicas Island, and Camiguin Island including their adjoining islets)

There is a possibility that TCWS #3 will be hoisted in areas near or along the projected track of the storm because intensification into typhoon category remains a potential scenario, the bureau added.

Based on the report, Siony followed after Rolly, which barreled across Luzon over the weekend and and displaced people particularly in the Bicol Region.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction on Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that the casualties from Rolly came from CALABARZON, MIMAROPA and Bicol region.

A total of 532,794 families or 2,083,222 individuals were affected by the latter in Regions II, III, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, the Bicol Rgion and the National Capital Region. Among them include 142,475 families or 517,172 people are being assisted in evacuation centers.

The bureau said that light to moderate with at times heavy rains will be faced by Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Aurora, Quezon, and the eastern portions of Cagayan and Isabela due to Siony and northeasterlies.

Flash floods and landslides might occur during heavy or prolonged rainfall in areas prone to these hazards.

These can also hapen in areas which faced rainfall from tropical cyclones Pepito, Quinta, and Rolly.
