Gordon Says At Least 80% Of Houses In Catanduanes Towns Destroyed

TYPHOON ROLLY – According to Senator Richard Gordon, at least 80% of houses in Catanduanes towns were left destroyed as Rolly Ravaged the region.

Gordon, the chairman of the Philippine Red Cross, cited reports from Red Cross personnel stationed in the area. However, he emphasized that the full extent of the Typhoon’s damage couldn’t be fully assessed as communication lines were damaged.

During an interview with GMA’s Dobol B, he said:

11 bayan kasi diyan [sa Catanduanes]. Doon sa tatlong bayan, ang nahagilap nung tatlong tao namin na nakamotorsiklo, visual lang ito, mga 80% ang damaged sa mga bahay

Furthermore, Gordon added that the PRC would donate tarpaulin’s and rooftops to provide shelter to evacuees. Along with this, the PRC chair said swab tests would also be done in case some of the people catch the flu.

On Sunday morning, Rolly reached super typhoon status. As such, the strongest typhoon of 2020 caused intense rainfall and flooded villages. This resulted to thousands of people evacuating from their homes.

Currently, only satellite phones could be used to communicate to people outside the region due to communication lines being destroyed. Additionally, several missing persons have also been reported.
