Taiwan Goes 200 Days Without Any Cases Of Localized COVID-19 Transmissions

TAIWAN 200 DAYS WITHOUT COVID-19 – While the world continues to struggle containing the new coronavirus, Taiwan just went 200 days without a single case.

Despite its close proximity to China, Taiwan always held an edge when it came to their COVID-19 response. For the most part, Taiwan followed a scientific based approach to containing the virus, following the guidance of experts in medicine, virology, and related fields.

Furthermore, early on into the pandemic, Taiwan was one of the first countries to impose a lockdown and closed borders. As such, Taiwan never had to resort to strict lockdowns with drastic restrictions to the movement of its residents.

Without hesitation and with the safety of the public in mind, Taiwan quickly closed borders as early as January 23. By March, the time COVID-19 became prevalent in the Philippines, Taiwan already banned foreign nationals from entering the country.

Chen also emphasized that lockdowns were not ideal as long as there was a working and efficient system being followed. Along with this, he said that mass-testing schemes such as those done in China were often unnecessary.

“Very careful contact tracing and very stringent quarantines of close contacts are the best way to contain Covid-19
