Quezon City Councilor-actor Alfred Vargas and his wife, Yasmine, filed a criminal complaint against the parents of a minor who allegedly bullied and physically abused their son during swimming sessions. The action and conduct have become repeated and have gone on despite prior warning to the alleged bully.
They also narrated that the situation escalated during a swimming competition, where the minor allegedly pushed their child again, nearly causing injury, before the event. The repeated incidents prompted the couple to take legal action, stressing the emotional distress and safety concerns for their son.
Kapuso actress Yasmien Kurdi, who had the same experience, reacted to this. To recall, she has officially taken her complaint to the Department of Education (DepEd) following the bullying incident her daughter Ayesha experienced.
In her statement, she expressed support for the Vargas family. She added that the situation may be heartbreaking, but, at the same time, a wake-up call regarding the serious impact of bullying.
She emphasized that bullying builds over time and can deeply affect a child’s sense of safety and well-being. This happens especially when concerns are ignored or dismissed by parents.
“Bullying doesn’t just happen once; it builds over time. From being singled out to feeling anxious and unsafe, it can deeply affect a child. It’s even more difficult when concerns are raised but are dismissed or not taken seriously instead of being addressed properly,” she wrote.
She emphasizes that taking a stand and holding people accountable is important to stop bullying and ends by praying for the Vargas family, saying every child deserves to feel safe and protected.

The parents should disregard the bullying. They are very minor and it is normal to the children where sometimes they don’t know what they are doing. Cong Vargas should talk to the parents since they knew each other. Ano ang magiging kasalanan ng parents yng d niya tinuruan yng anak. Maski anong gawin mong turo sa anak d pa niya makukuha yn dahil batang bata pa age 7 or 8 years old marami pang d Alam kung Tama o Mali. Pwede rin sabhan yng bata at that time yng nandodoon sila sa pool.
