PAGASA – Tropical Storm Goni Became Severe Tropical Storm

PAGASA – Tropical Storm Goni, which will be locally named “Rolly” has intensified into a severe tropical storm, PAGASA says.

The state weather bureau said in its 11 AM weather bulletin that Goni has has further developed into a severe tropical storm as of 8 AM.

It is expected to enter the eastern boundary of the PAR between this day afternoon or Thursday evening. It was last spotted at about 1,545 kilometers east of Central Luzon.

It is packed with maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 115 kilometers per hour. It is moving west at 10 kilometers per hour.

Goni is forecast to intensify to a typhoon within 24 hours and is set to intensify while moving over the Philippine Sea.

The storm will bring heavy rains over the eastern sections of Central and Southern Luzon by Friday or the weekend as it moves closer.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 may be raised over some provinces in the Bicol Region and in Northern Samar by Friday evening.

Based on the report, the bureau is monitoring another tropical depression outside the PAR and was last seen at 2,510 kilometers east of Mindanao.

It is packed with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour. It is moving west-northwestward at 15 kilometers per hour.
