DFA Probe On Ambassador Needs Green Light From Duterte

DFA PROBE ON AMBASSADOR – President Rodrigo Duterte needs to sign approval for an investigation on the PH’s Ambassador to Brazil.

Recently, the Philippines Ambassador to Brazil Marichu Mauro was caught on CCTV mistreating a 51-year-old Filipina domestic helper. Furthermore, local investigations revealed Mauro conducting the alleged acts of abuse several times.

After a fellow employee reported Mauro she was immediately deported back to the Philippines to provide her explanation. However, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs chief, Teodoro Locsin, investigations still need Duterte’s approval.

Still, Locsin vowed that the DFA would pursue “severe” repercussions for the Ambassador “to the fullest extent of the law”. Moreover, appropriate charges would be filed against her if investigations demand so.

But, based on Section 15 of Republic Act 7157, “the chiefs of mission who are commissioned by the President as ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary shall not be investigated by the Board or separated from the Service unless there is an express written directive from the President”.

Meanwhile, on his official Twitter account, Locsin said:

Under my leadership, the DFA will not tolerate in any way whatsoever actions by any of its ranking officers or staff that go against our primary

Brazilian news outlet Globo News reported on the incident releasing CCTV footage showing Mauro “berating and mistreating” her Filipina domestic helper. Also, Locsin said the DH was actually a cousin of Mauro based on one of his comments.
